At Corner Dentistry, we know how valuable your time is. That’s why Dr. Shim uses cutting-edge CERAC and CAD/CAM technology to provide our patients with same-day crowns. CERAC, or chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics, is a design and manufacturing unit that can scan, plan, and create dental crowns in a single appointment.

If you’re needing a crown immediately, our same-day crown services could be a good fit for you. With all of our procedures at Corner Dentistry, we’ll ensure your comfortable and confident with the final crown produced. With our same-day services, you’ll have a confident and durable smile in no time!

Our CEREC Crown Process

Using CAD/CAM software, Dr. Shim will take digital impressions of your teeth and upload them directly to the CEREC unit. He’ll then be able to design a custom crown that will keep your bite properly aligned and blend in seamlessly with your other teeth. This process is 100% customizable, and Dr. Shim will work with you one-on-one to ensure you’re confident in the final crown.

Once the crown is approved, the CEREC milling unit will create your crown from durable procelain. This takes about 20 minutes, after which Dr. Shim will then apply the crown to your tooth. Any additional shaping and adjustment of the crown will happen to ensure a comfortable and seamless fit. The whole process takes only about an hour!

Since CEREC allows Dr. Shim to craft your dental restorations in-office, you won’t have to wait weeks for the final placement like traditional crowns. This comes with a few key benefits: a proper-fitting crown immediately, only one visit need instead of two, and restored functionality and appearance to your teeth.

Same-Day Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns

Both same-day crowns and traditional crowns come with some pros and cons to each choice. Depending on your preferences, you might prefer one option over the other. Below we compare the two in a few different categories.

The Treatment Process

As stated by its name, same-day crowns involve a quicker process than getting a traditional crown. Since the CEREC machine allows Dr. Shim to design and create a crown in-office, it eliminates the second visit needed during the traditional crown process. Once the crown is created with either option, however, the application process is very similar with both.

Costs

In most cases, ceramic crowns have similar price tags attached whether or not they’re made in-office or sent to a lab, but it’s ultimately up to your insurance how much you’ll have to pay. In general, though, same-day crowns are typically more cost-effective since they eliminate outside lab fees and the cost of temporary crowns. By taking advantage of our same-day crowns with CEREC, you’ll also only have to pay for one visit instead of two.

Durability

With proper care, CEREC crowns can last several years, with patients taking excellent care of them lasting 10 years or more. While the material used to create same-day crowns is highly-durable, it is usually weaker than the porcelain or metal material typically used to create traditional crowns.

Summary of Same-Day Crowns Benefits

In the end, it’s up to you whether you’d like a same-day crown or a traditional crown. Many of our patients opt for our CEREC crowns due to the increased convenience, comfort, and typical cost savings.

When You Need a Same-Day Crown

Same-day crowns are a great option for patients who need a crown almost immediately. This is a popular restorative option because it not only restores functionality and durability to the tooth, but also improves cosmetic issues as well. Below are the most common reasons why patients receive a same-day crown.

  • Chips or cracks
  • Discolored or misshapen teeth
  • Decayed teeth
  • Disproportionate teeth
  • Teeth undergoing a root canal treatment

Your consultation with Dr. Shim will help determine if you’re a good candidate for same-day crowns. He will take into consideration your overall oral health, state of the affected tooth, your budget, and your crown preferences. If you have any gum disease issues or cavities, these will have to be taken care of before receiving your CEREC crowns.
